Purchasing Globals Software

The Globals software can be downloaded and used for 30 days free of charge. After 30 days, a password must be purchased from the Laboratory for Fluorescence Dynamics (LFD). There is a one-time cost for purchasing the password(s):

• $1000 for Globals for Spectroscopy aka GlobalsWE (Windows Edition)
  
• $2000 for Globals for Images aka SimFCS, which includes the RICS and FLIM modules.

How to Order

1. Place your order using the online order form, then
2. FAX a copy of your purchase order to 217-244-7187.

If your organization needs an invoice in order to make a prepayment, you will be presented a "Proforma Invoice" after you place your order online. This should enable you to obtain prepayment from your purchasing division.

• I have just downloaded the new version of Globals. How do I install the new software?

  Answer: Double-click on the downloaded Globals-setup.exe file; the installation is automatic.

• How do I get the manuals for the program?

  Answer: The manuals are contained in the program. There are no paper manuals.

• How do Iknow if you have received my order? How do I know if it's correct? Should I fax a copy of my order too?

  Answer: When you press "Submit Order", if you get a screen that shows "Proforma Invoice", you have placed an order correctly and it has been received. Every time you press "Submit Order" you submit a new order. If applicable, please fax a copy of your company purchase order to 217-244-7187.

• My research group is a user of the Globals software. I was wondering how we need to reference the software in our publications? Specifically I would like to know who to put as the programmers and what year to put down.

  Answer: Please use the following acknowledgement: "The fluorescence data were analyzed using the Globals software package developed at the Laboratory for Fluorescence Dynamics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign."

  If you need a bibliography reference, the software was first introduced and documentation exists in: "Beechem, J.M. and E. Gratton. "Fluorescence Spectroscopy Data Analysis Environment A Second Generation Global Analysis Program." In Time-Resolved Laser Spectroscopy in Biochemistry, Proc. of SPIE, Vol. 909, ed., Joseph Lakowicz, pp. 70-81 (1988)."

• Does this software also include parallel data acquisition software (data collection, processing andfiltering) as it is described in Professor Gratton's publication: Digital parallel acquisition in frequency domain fluorimetry (Rev. Sci. Instrum. 60, 1989, 2929-36)?

  Answer: Globals is an analysis software and will analyze data irrespective of whether the data were acquired using a parallel or a conventional fluorometer.

• Is there a version of this software that I can test before I purchase it?

  Answer: You may download a copy of the software and use it for a 30 day trial period. Without purchase, usability of the software will expire in about 30 days.
